Chapter 7: And So Begins Another 4-Day Weekend

I kind of hate having long weekends. I mean, I enjoy the time off, I really do. But, we live in the middle of nowhere, and I have to drive 45 minutes to get to anything. Driving can seem like a chore sometimes. I wish we lived in the city, that way, if I wanted something to do, all I would have to do is step out my front door and walk. Window-shopping. Going to lunch. Exploring your surroundings. These are things you can do when you live close to civilization. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in the country and having beautiful scenery around me at all times. But, I don’t enjoy it when it’s cold, snowy and windy outside. I hate being out in the cold. It kills my Fibromyalgia. And I feel like I would have more friends if I were around people more often. I guess I can’t really complain, though. Our rent is FAR cheaper than what it would be if we lived anywhere else.

One of the things that really bothers me about Facebook is, what I call, the “friend popularity”. I’m constantly seeing What’s Her Face is now friends with What’s His Face, and then they both catch up all excitedly over each other’s walls. My problem with this is, I’m never getting friend requests. I’m the one who is always sending them. Granted, I have almost 200 friends on there, but over 75% of them are people who play the same games that I play, and we’re only “friends” to help each other out. Very rarely do I get a friend request form someone I actually know. I’m tired of searching. I want to be found.

Okay, so that’s enough of a downer entry. Let’s bring this blog back up to a happy zone!

What did everyone do for Valentine’s Day? Did y’all have fun? We didn’t get to do much, because B has been sick with a head cold. (I swear, he sneezes and thinks he’s dying. He never gets sick, so when he does, he feels extra crappy, even if it isn’t that bad. Ha ha!)

Saturday night, we watched The Time Traveler’s Wife with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, because the plot seemed kind of stupid. Here’s a good synopsis I found on IMDB:

A Chicago librarian suffers from a rare genetic disorder that sends him hurtling through time whenever he is under extreme duress; despite the fact that he vanishes at inordinately frequent and lengthy intervals, he attempts to build a stable future with the beautiful young heiress he loves.

See?! The fact that he has a “genetic disorder” that causes him to travel through time just sounds stupid.

But it was SO incredibly romantic. I fell in love with the movie almost instantaneously. It was the perfect Valentine’s movie to watch (even though it was the day before Valentine’s Day).

On Sunday, we just kind of hung around the house and didn’t do much of anything. We had pizza for dinner, and watched TV. That’s about it.

Later that night, I checked my e-mail to find an e-card waiting for me. It was a Hoops and Yoyo card! I love them!

So, I open the card, go through the animation, and come to the personalization of it.

“I know I’m sick and we didn’t do anything special, but at least we did nothing together. Here’s a chreesy card for ya. Luv U.”

Yes, it said ‘chreesy’. Chreese is a vegan alternative to cheese. :)

I made me giggle, blush and smile larger than I had all day. And you know, we didn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day, but getting things like that makes me not want to do anything on any other holiday, just so I can get an unexpected smile and fall even more deeply into love.

Chapter 6: I Love Pancakes That Have Slightly Undercooked Batter In The Middle

Sorry for my lack of writing. Not much is going on, so I don’t want to bore you with MY boredom.

Within an hour of each other last night, we euthanized 2 animals… both of which were named Jerry. How weird is that? Jerry is not a common name in the animal world. It would be more understandable if they were “Bailey” or “Max”, but Jerry? It gave Dr. S and I chills. Thankfully, they were not the same species, because that would have really been creepy. (One was a cat, the other a ferret.)

Work is going good! The only “problem” I’ve had, is one of the other technicians told Dr. S that she thought I acted like I knew everything. When I asked Dr. S to give me an example, she said, “Well, she said you questioned why we were using a certain blood tube”. Um… okay? I haven’t been telling people how to do their jobs, I’ve just been asking, “So, why do we do it this way? I’m used to this…” just so I can understand why we do things the way we do them. I don’t like doing something and not knowing why I’m doing it, you know?

I guess I should actually tell you the whole story of my job before I go on complaining or anything…

I was hired to basically re-train everyone (including the other doctor), but they don’t know that. They think I’m just another technician like them. Dr. S really wanted me to work there since I went to school for the job, and I’m certified. (In some states, you don’t have to go to school and be certified/licensed to work in an animal hospital. Sometimes on-the-job training will do, but the American Animal Hospital Association [AAHA from now on] is trying to steer away from that.) So, Dr. S wanted me to come in with my knowledge of legal procedures and medical procedures etc. and basically re-train everyone, but not let them know what I’m doing. She wants me to do things the correct way, and set an example for everyone else. It kind of sucks in the sense that people might start thinking I’m a goodie-too-shoes and whatnot, but it’s nice because if I get backlash from people, I can let her know and she’ll put whatever I was trying to do into the hospital policy.

So anyway, I hope all of that made sense. Essentially, I am there to lay down the law of AAHA. Hehe.

I love my job, though. For the most part, everyone there is great. I’m paid extremely well for my position. The drive isn’t too bad. I’m constantly learning new things… I’m really happy that I went in and gave my resume to them on the day I did.

Being vegan is going good! My body is handling all of the new and different foods I’m putting into it. I love the recipes we’re making, and I’m super happy that B (my boyfriend) is eating and liking them as well. Having that support there helps, you know?

B and I are doing great. I've been on this weird "My biological clock is ticking!" thing lately. (Don't worry, I have NOT said anything about it to him.) And I'm all "Oh my dog, everyone around me is having or has had a baby, and I want one! NO! I want three!!!" and that's all my mind is thinking lately. Gah. Stupid female hormones. Like WTF?! I don't want kids at 23, and I want to wait until I'm married, you know? (That's another thing I keep yearning for... again, stupid hormones!!!) Other than my silent mental freak-outs, we're just peachy. Hahaha!

I guess that’s it for now. I’ll try to update more often now that I’m actually starting to have a life. :)

Chapter 5: Tired Ramblings

Oh. My. Dog.

I am so incredibly tired. I’m not used to getting up before 7:00 AM (well, make that 9:30 AM) and working 10-hour shifts. Of course, being the “new girl” I have been given all the crap shifts that no one wants to work. This includes being at work at 8:00 AM every day, and working on Saturdays. But, such is life.

And, I’ve been sitting here trying to write this entry for over an hour, and this is as far as I’ve gotten. lmao I think it’s safe to say that not much is going on in my life.

Oh, right… I wanted to bitch about how irresponsible a lot of pet owners are, but I’m too tired. Basically, if your cat is having a really hard time breathing, and it’s stomach gets really huge, don’t wait a couple of months to bring it to the vet, because when you do and you find out that it’s heart is the size of a grapefruit and you need to euthanize it, no one will feel bad for you.

End of story.
